#17: the charcoal cap

i was proud to welcome a new member to my stl cardinal ballcap collection this christmas morning: #17, THE CHARCOAL CAP. i’ve got plenty of blue and black, but no charcoal. perfect for the office, home, or anywhere (except for when going to busch stadium when only red will do). here’s a few others in the collection. (by the way, #16 “THE LUCKY CAP” is not pictured here. it’s representing in the back of the honda).

#1, THE ORIGINAL
it all started here. this was my first hat, given to me years ago by a good friend in exchange for a t-shirt. it’s stained, smelly and shredded, but full of character. it’s been putting off retirement for a while, but when that day comes, i’ve got a spot over the workbench for him to camp out on.

THE TRAVELING CAP
it doesn’t get any more faithful than this one. this is easily my go-to hat on most days. it’s starting to show some wear, and the blue is looking less-blue everyday.

THE SUNDAY CAP
also known as the YARD CAP, because this cap has withstood many summer afternoons here in arkansas. there’s something about this cap makes me rake a little harder and mow a little faster. real fans will know it’s not a true sunday hat — the redbirds’ actual cap for sunday games has a red bill.

THE CARDS ARE PLAYING THE CUBS CAP
it’s covered in cubby-blue. you think i’m cheering for the cubbies, but no. i’m tricky like that. that STL emblem is still front and center. cubbies go down.

THE OLDTIMER
1944 cooperstown replica for the stl browns (the only non-cardinal ballcap allowed in the collection. it’s stl-love).

THE MOURNING CAP
all in black, especially for days after a loss. it’s also frequently sported during long winters after losing seasons.

THE CLASSIC
although i don’t wear it often, what’s a collection without the official team hat?THE WEDDING HAT
for dress-up occasions when only white will do.

there’s still plenty out there, and i’ve got room on the cap wall for more!
